Intent Magazine

Intent Magazine is an original publication that features true crime and unsolved mysteries. This issue’s main story revisits a murder in the early 20th century that was originally deemed as a suicide. The article delves into why the court ruled the death a suicide despite a large amount of evidence pointing to murder instead. Ultimately, the story delves into the rampant sexism that was present at the time and how that could have influenced the ruling.

The design of the magazine features original photography, as well as some photography from a MOMA exhibition. The masthead type was developed specifically for the magazine. Media such as dripped ink was used to emulate an eerie mood in the typeface. Some of the title text within the magazine is split and offset to represent the sinking of the body in the main article. Finally, a photo montage of the original Philadelphia Inquirer article from 1920 of the drowning woman is showed on the main article page.
